Over the years here at Airwaves we have seen many beautiful wedding venues creatively transformed to suit a couple’s theme, from old ships, to backyards, to mountaintops, the possibilities are endless. Finding a venue for your ceremony and reception that no one else has thought of can be a difficult task. We wanted to help make it a little easier on you and decided to start looking for innovative spaces where you can hold your wedding. While doing this we found a gem of a website to help you find alternative venues that can be browsed in one place. The website thisopenspace shows new and cool locations in Vancouver that can be rented for your event. It is a great way to find a creative venue that is sure to impress your guests. The spaces shown on the site include restaurants, galleries, studios, coffee shops, warehouses and more. These hidden spots within Vancouver fit into many different wedding themes and will show your originality and uniqueness. thisopenspace provides information such as size, capacity, location and amenities and includes many photos to give you an idea of what can be done. Below are some that we picked out from their site that would make awesome wedding venues.

This first one is a restored heritage building in the shipyard plaza of North Vancouver; it has a capacity of 500 people and is 9300 sq ft. It would be perfect for any of you having a large wedding or going with a rustic theme. This is the largest of our selection and would be a great choice!

Here is another warehouse that could definitely be transformed for your reception. It fits 120 people and is 3000 sq ft. Picture filling the room with lots of round tables, tea lights, colorful flowers, and an Airwaves Music DJ to liven up the room. You’ll have an amazing reception hall in no time. This venue is located in the historic Railtown district of East Vancouver.

This next venue is an awesome space for summer weddings in Vancouver (as this is when you will have the least likely chance of rain). This penthouse comes fully furnished with breathtaking views of the mountains. Its 150-person capacity is a perfectly chic venue for your ceremony or reception. They have an indoor space as well but you definitely need to be able to take advantage of it 270-degree panoramic view.

Another great venue is the event space at Rainier Provisions located right in the heart of Gastown. It is perfect for a reception as it is a licensed venue with food and drinks provided. It can accommodate 110 people and its more casual look would be great for anyone who wants to make their wedding feel less formal.

For those of you who are going for a very low-key reception with a buffet style dinner or a small, catered affair this location could make an interesting option. In the day it is a shared office space but you can rent out the whole area with a capacity of 80. Its indoor space is decorated with exposed wood and hanging lights while its outdoor space has a great view of Downtown Vancouver. It visible kitchen space could be turned into an open bar or desert station.

Our last choice is one that you’ll definitely want to use your imagination because? It’s a yoga studio! Flex at Stretch Yoga studio in Chinatown is one that we think could be transformed into a quaint reception space for a small wedding. It fits 60 people and is an open community space with interesting design features that include large beams. If you imagine removing everything from the floors this would make a great dinner room. It is cheaper to rent than most venues and includes a patio, skylight and large windows to create a bright space that is centrally located for you and your guests.
