VANCOUVER, British Columbia, November 1, 2013 – Airwaves Music is earning the title of entrepreneurial leader by donating “100 Gigs for Cancer” for Christmas of 2014.
As each company signs up for their Christmas Party entertainment from Airwaves Music, Airwaves Music will book that performer for a $500 minimum to the company. $500 is the minimum but companies are able to donate more and all the proceeds will go to the Canadian Cancer Society. Airwaves Music will donate all proceeds from the “100 Gigs To Fight Cancer” initiative at the end of the year to cancer research. This initiative is made possible by the generous donations of the Airwaves Musicians time and talent. The fundraiser will kickoff with a party at the Westin Grand on Robson Street, downtown Vancouver on December 4 from 7-10. Other sponsors of the fundraiser include: Sweetheart Events, Sylvia Klein Weddings, Nate Makes Films and the Canadian Cancer Society.
In the fall of 2011, Bob Graham, the founder of Airwaves Music was diagnosed with testicular cancer.
“It was extremely scary; I remember sitting alone in my car, terrified about the prospect of losing a body part at the least, and dying young in the worst case scenario.”
Bob got surgery that December and has since been cancer free.
“It’s an amazing feeling to beat cancer. Knowing how frightening it is, I really want to help prevent other people from going through that. I’ve decided that Airwaves would be a great fundraising vehicle and I know with the communities support, we can raise upwards of $50,000 this year.”
Airwaves Music was established in 2009 with two specific goals in mind. The first was to help people find the exact live performer they wanted, regardless of the musical style or genre, quickly and easily. The second was to help musicians and DJs make a living doing what they love. Five short years later, the company has expanded to book over 200 performers in five cities, performing over 1000 events with clients such as: Virgin, Disney, Telus and many more.
